The bridge carries the main road north-south through the village over the route of the former railway line. This means it is the responsibility of the County Highway authority to maintain it.

The railway was a branch line from Spilsby to Firsby.

In 1919 Kelly's Directory has "Public Elementary School (mixed), with master's residence attached, enlarged in 1907, for 100 children" Mrs. M. Evans, mistress"

St Andrew, Halton Holegate, is largely Perpendicular and built in greenstone though the tower and east end are the work of James Fowler and G. E. Street in 1866-67.

The interior contains fine choir stalls and bench ends. There is a monument of an early fourteenth-century knight - possibly Sir John de Fenes.

The tower, rebuilt by Fowler in 1866-67, has a large bell opening in Perpendicular style.

The tower not only has large angle buttresses between each face but also smaller buttresses midway along the three exposed sides.

The small village of Halton Holegate lies 1 mile east of Spilsby.

It had a railway station on the Firsby Junction to Spilsby branch line which opened in 1868. Passenger services ended in 1939 and the line closed completely in 1958.

The Bell Inn, shown here on the left, is still open for business.

The fringe of the churchyard of St Andrew's appears on the right.

The 1837 datestone is in the gable end of the higher element of the building. The shape of this stone with the arched head is particularly attractive. The sharply cut characters are in remarkably good condition.

Known as Top Mill or Borrill's Mill, this small 4-sailed corn mill (one of two in the village) stood close to the lane leading south from the village centre towards the fen (TF 417 654).

The miller for much of the twentieth century was John Borrill, succeeded by Frank Parker.
